For over three decades, Ray has been a respected fixture in the Central New York legal community, successfully trying complex cases in both federal and state courts. His dedication and expertise have earned him the prestigious "AV" rating from the national peer review organization Martindale-Hubbell, signifying its highest possible standing for "very high to pre-eminent" legal ability and a "very high" general recommendation. Ray has secured numerous impressive recoveries for his clients—through verdicts, arbitration, and settlements—ranging from $100,000 to $10.5 million, in addition to achieving critical "not guilty" or lesser included offense verdicts in criminal matters. While his civil practice primarily focuses on plaintiffs and his criminal practice on defendants, he also handles commercial litigation, estate litigation, and represents students, professors, and academic employees in various educational and employment disputes, frequently accepting referrals from fellow attorneys. Ray's leadership experience includes serving as past president of the Tompkins County Bar Association, a former director of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, and he maintains active membership in several prominent organizations, including the American Trial Lawyers Association and the New York State Bar Association. Beyond his practice, Ray is deeply committed to his community, having served on many significant not-for-profit and civic boards, such as those for Tompkins-Cortland Community College, Planned Parenthood of Tompkins County, the Hangar Theatre, and the Ithaca City Common Council. He also shares his extensive knowledge by lecturing periodically in the legal community and local schools, including Cornell Law School.
