Employee Receives prestigious Honorable Mention for the Provost's Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research at Binghamton University

On April 27th, Hannah Shankman received a prestigious Honorable Mention for the Provost's Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research at BU.

Hannah was a Matrimonial Intern last year at Levene Gouldin & Thompson, and on her second summer here as an employee. We are proud to have such hard working and impressive people on our team!

Here is what the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Donald G. Nieman said about Hannah:

"Hannah is a Dec 2017 graduate with degrees in History and Philosophy, Politics, and Law. She graduated summa cum laude, with an impressive 3.99 GPA.

Hannah is the member of four honors societies and has been on the Dean’s list every semester of her undergraduate career. As a member of the Pell Honors Program, Hannah produced original jury-reviewed philosophical writing and subsequently defended it at a public conference as a member of the prestigious Pell Honors Program. It is here where she received the Pell Award for the strongest thesis, an award given to one student each year.

According to her professors, Hannah is and intellectually curious student who takes pleasure in working through complex arguments, abstract theory, and empirical questions. In addition, she has contributed substantially to the intellectual vibrancy of the PPL Program. Prof. Max Pensky stated, “[Hannah’s] research is original, professional, sharply argued, well grounded in the relevant literature, and makes a contribution to an important current debate in political theory with a range of direct and pressing real-world applications. These are standards that undergraduate research rarely attains.”

Hannah is not only an excellent scholar, but an award-winning student-athlete. She was a four year starter and scholarship recipient on the women's varsity soccer team, where she served as captain for three years as voted by her coach and teammates. Throughout Hannah’s career as a collegiate student-athlete, Hannah effectively excelled at managing the demands of a rigorous academic and athletic environment. Hannah’s successes on and off the field have fostered admiration from both staff and students within Binghamton’s athletics community.

In addition to her academics and athletics success, Hannah has worked as an intern at both Brindisi, Murad, Brindisi & Pearlman LLP in Utica, NY and Levene Gouldin & Thompson LLP in Binghamton, NY, and for New York State Assemblyman Anthony Brindis in his District Office in Utica.

Hannah aspires to work in the field of international relations or foreign affairs, where she hopes to take what she was learning in the theoretical realm and apply it in a meaningful, legitimate, way.
We are pleased to honor Hannah Shankman as a recipient of Honorable Mention for the 2018 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research."
