DHS Ends 2021 Temporary Protected Status for Venezuela

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the termination of the 2021 designation of Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). In a notice published in the Federal Register on September 5, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated that, after reviewing current conditions in Venezuela and consulting with interagency partners, DHS determined the country no longer meets the statutory requirements for TPS. The termination of the 2021 designation will take effect at 11:59 p.m. on November 7, 2025, 60 days from the publication date.

Current Venezuelan TPS beneficiaries under the 2021 designation are advised to prepare for departure if they do not have another lawful basis to remain in the United States.
